O J Ginther, PhD, DVM is a Professor of Veterinary Science at the University of Wisconsin. The Ginther laboratory has pioneered the use of mares as models for basic reproduction research and the use of comparative studies between horses and cattle. These approaches have resulted in massive applied spin-off for the equine and bovine industries. The laboratory is credited with developing the revolutionary ultrasound technology for research and clinical purposes in large animal reproduction.

Professor Ginther has trained 50 PhD and postdoctoral students, many of whom have become professors and leaders in reproductive biology. The laboratory has published over 500 manuscripts in scientific and professional journals.

Professor Ginther is sole author of seven text and reference books. He has received considerable scientific and professional recognition, including the Physiology and Endocrinology Award of the American Society of Animal Science, the Milne Award by the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from The Pennsylvania State University, and Charter Induction into the International Equine Research Hall of Fame.

Dr. Ginther is the founder and Director of the charitable Eutheria Foundation, which provides facilities, animals, equipment, supplies, and personnel for scientific research on basic reproductive mechanisms in farm animals. The Foundation publishes 12 to 15 manuscripts per year in scientific and professional peer-reviewed journals.
